This visit made it possible to share with elected officials the various initiatives carried out by the organization’s teams since the pandemic, to ensure the success and perseverance of the students. The efforts made to adapt the offer of courses and activities, as well as the various assistance measures, were underlined by the director of studies, Mrs. Francine Bélair.
The successes achieved by the institution to facilitate the secondary-college transition, with, among other things, the improvement of the tutoring program in secondary schools in the Montérégie-Ouest territory and the establishment of educational camps last summer to new students were highlighted.
Finally, in line with the Ministerial Action Plan for Mental Health, the Student Affairs Department team also shared the various psychosocial initiatives to support some of our students who are experiencing psychological distress.
“The concern for support from Cégep teams towards students is part of each of our actions, particularly in the challenging context of COVID-19. We are proud of the work accomplished by our teams and we are very grateful for it. Elected officials seemed very enthusiastic about our achievements”, says Mr. Rémillard.
This meeting was also a great opportunity to share the various challenges and issues of the Cégep in the short and medium term. It was particularly a question of the need to improve public transport in the territory to facilitate access to our educational environments for our college community, and the importance of moving forward with certain important investment projects, for which the Cégep is still awaiting authorization. Among these is the project to expand and relocate the Mechanical Engineering Techniques premises.
The visit concluded with a meeting with the Association Étudiante du Cégep de Valleyfield (AGÉCoV) and subsequently, Ms. McCann and Mr. Reid participated in the 12th edition of the Wines and Talk of the Cégep de Valleyfield Foundation.
