In order to stop contamination, Quebec is implementing new health measures in schools. This is what the Minister of Education Jean-François Roberge announced on Monday, October 5th . In the region, as of the date of the announcement, the measure applies to École secondaire Cité-des-Jeunes in Vaudreuil-Dorion, to École secondaire du Chêne-Bleu in Pincourt and to the École secondaire des Patriotes-de-Beauharnois in Beauharnois.

In areas categorized as red, high school students are required, as of Thursday, October 8th , to wear a mask as soon as they arrive on school grounds and at all times in class. While these measures may seem drastic to some, Minister Roberge also indicated that secondary 4 and 5 students will attend school every other day.

“We are talking about hybrid school attendance, said the Minister of Education. This will reduce the number of students by 20% and at the same time, it will avoid contact. However, students will need to continue their learning online at home.”

Insisting that the Covid-19 virus is everywhere, Mr. Roberge assures that schools are not major vectors of transmission, but that new measures must be taken.
“The announced measures are in effect until October 28th, said Minister Roberge. We have to do this for our children. We really want to keep schools open. Children need it. ”

Since the start of the school year, it is possible to see groups of students near schools. On this subject, the Minister of Education said that schools located in the red zone will have to ensure that the class group is respected on a permanent basis. In order to ensure the success of the measure, the police will have the task of intervening and raising awareness.

Closure of training centers

Delegated Minister of Education, Isabelle Charest, was also present to indicate that Quebec was suspending sports activities in the red zone until October 28th. In fact, Mrs. Charest announced the closure of the training rooms.

“It will still be possible to practice sports, but on an individual basis,” says Isabelle Charest.
