Christmas differently! | VIVA MÉDIA Skip to main content

During this time of pandemic, all the actions we take together are helping to break the isolation felt by many of our seniors. In collaboration with the age-friendly municipalities and the Générations engagées project, the Comité de concertation des aînés du Haut-Saint-Laurent is launching a special edition of the Let’s Visit Our Seniors Challenge in Haut-Saint-Laurent, which will be held from December 1st , 2020 to January 10th , 2021.

With the holiday season approaching, the population of Haut-Saint-Laurent is invited not to forget the importance of getting closer to our seniors. COVID-19 is causing several exceptional changes in our lifestyles and, in this sense, we are launching a special edition under the theme of: Noël Autrement! (Christmas differently!)

This special challenge intends to support seniors in the current context of the health crisis, in order to break the isolation and offer them some comfort, through concerted mobilization of the Haut-Saint-Laurent community. Do not hesitate to show creativity, understanding, humor and warmth, it is not the gesture itself that counts but rather the value that the action taken will have for the senior. At all times, the measures in place relating to the health crisis must be observed.

After sending your cards as part of this challenge, if you wish to donate excess blank Christmas cards, you can drop them off: CLSC, Ste-Barbe City Hall (mail drop), Centre communautaire Multiservices Un Coin Chez Nous, Municipalité de Howick, Municipalité de Saint-Anicet, until December 16th . These cards will be sent to provide important recognition to other seniors in our community.

As part of its En Bonne Compagnie dans le Haut-Saint-Laurent project, the Comité de concertation des aînés du Haut-Saint-Laurent (CCAHSL), the initiator of the
challenge, wishes you a warm and healthy holiday season, of resilience, courage and love.

The challenge offers five actions of comfort for our seniors:

  • Send a Christmas card
  • Make a phone or virtual call (this can be followed by sending the card or simply to share your wishes, get news, etc.)
  • Share a meal virtually on a platform like Zoom, Skype, Facetime, or other (you can also organize a meal delivery from the restaurant)
  • Offer personal shares (eg photos, recipes, family newsletters, handmade gifts, reading or sending a poem, virtual choir, thank you note, etc.)
  • Highlight the New Year (eg phone, Happy New Year card, Christmas photos of children, animals, etc. can be included)
