No cellular phone while driving! | VIVA MÉDIA Skip to main content

In addition to the many awareness-raising initiatives and the proactivity it has shown in recent years with its road safety partners, the Beauharnois-Salaberry RCM is pleased to announce that the municipalities have recently acquired around twenty educational radars thanks to the invaluable support of the “Programme d’aide financière du Fonds de la sécurité routière” of the Quebec Ministry of Transportation, under which 50% of the cost of acquiring this equipment was financed.

“Once again, this year, the Government of Quebec is proud to support the Beauharnois-Salaberry RCM in improving this important project for road safety. It will increase awareness of the dangers associated with speeding on our local roads, and at the same time, I hope, to avoid as much as possible causing other road victims”, mentions Claude Reid, MP for Beauharnois and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transport.

It should be noted that this acquisition of equipment will also be shared by all the municipalities in the territory of the RCM. Motorists have already seen the installation of these educational radars in several locations.

During last summer, several actions have already been deployed in the field to relaunch the awareness message to road users on the consequences of using a cell phone while driving (fine of $ 490 and 5 demerit points). In addition to the distribution of promotional material in several public places of the territory, the campaign was able to be seen and heard by certain companies, vocational training centers, secondary schools, as well as at certain events.

However, it should be noted that this 3rd edition of the campaign will really take off during the year 2022, when more interventions will be deployed in the field and that we will also be present at the edge of the cycling network by expanding the message of awareness of bicycle safety rules.

“The RCM is also proud to announce that the campaign “Pas de cell au volant, c’est gagnant!” Is currently nominated for a provincial road safety award. Our recognition goes to our early partners who have been mobilized for 3 years already within the framework of this regional campaign on the use of cellphones while driving, in this case the municipalities, the Sûreté du Québec, the Service de Police de Châteauguay as well as the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec”, underlines the prefect of the RCM, Mrs. Maude Laberge.
