Farmer’s Market festival today

Ste. Anne-de-Bellevue town councillor and mayoral candidate Paola Hawa will reign today during the 7th annual Garlic Festival, taking place from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Ste. Anne’s waterfront farmer’s market.

Hawa was crowned Queen of the Garlic with a garlic and wildflower wreath after reading a poem dedicated to the vegetable that is in the onion genus family. Patti Murphy, a coordinator with the Sainte Anne’s Farmer’s Market, which is hosting today’s festival, said Hawa has long been a “a great champion of local foods.” Hawa, who also served as a judge during the Great Garlic Dessert Challenge last year, will be stationed at a welcome kiosk where she’ll speak to people about local foods and share tips on cooking and gardening. The festival will also include workshops, cooking demonstrations and contests, films, and more.
