Highway accident claims life of Vaudreuil-Dorion man

A 53-year-old Vaudreuil-Dorion man died Tuesday afternoon from injuries suffered during a traffic accident on Highway 30 in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Sûreté du Québec police say the victim, Paul Rozon, collided with another vehicle while he was attempting to switch lanes on the highway. The victim was thrown from his car after the vehicle impacted with a highway guardrail. He was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries. A driver and passenger in the other car were not badly hurt. An investigation is underway.

Internet scam puts daters in compromising position

Police are warning people to keep their wits, and their clothing, about them when it comes to online dating and revealing too much.

Sûreté du Québec police say they’ve received close to a dozen complaints in the past few months about cases of online blackmail in which victims from the region have been hit-up for money after exposing themselves to would-be dating sight suitors.

Video footage or photos of the exposed victims in compromising positions were stored by the perpetrators, who then threaten to distribute the images if money, often thousands of dollars, was not sent.

Though perpetrators are often located in foreign countries, making it hard for police to track or arrest a criminal, SQ Vaudreuil-Soulanges police are nevertheless investigating several cases. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Break and enter

A home on Jonquilles St. in Vaudreuil-Dorion was robbed sometime between Aug. 10 – 14. Thieves gained access to the house by forcing open a second story window. Various goods and valuables were stolen. Meanwhile, a grey 2002 two-door Volkswagen GTI was stolen from Tonnancour Rd. in Vaudreuil-Dorion between Aug. 11 – 16, and a red, two-door 2004 Honda Civic was stolen from Burley Rd. in Pincourt on Aug. 18.

Suspect sought

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify an armed robber who held up a victim at a Pincourt ATM at 10:35 p.m. on Aug. 7.

Investigators are seeking a French-speaking man in his 20s who was wearing a brown jacket or sweater, dark pants, a dark hat and gloves, and a beige scarf which partially covered his face during the robbery which took place at a bank machine located on Cardinal Léger Blvd.

The robber, who was armed with a knife, surprised the victim after the client had withdrawn an undisclosed about of cash from the machine. The thief fled after taking the money.

Anyone with information is asked to call the SQ’s Central Criminal Investigation Line at 1-800-659-4264.
