Saint Lazare’s Saint Jean Baptiste festivities were a hit Sunday and Monday despite the Town’s decision to cancel its annual fireworks show in a sombre show of tribute to two women who lost their lives last week in the BEM fireworks plant explosion. Despite the cancelation, celebrations and music took place well into the night Sunday at the municipality’s main park, Parc Béedard.
And the annual St. Jean parade was also a hit when it began under hot, sunny skies Monday. Spectators, lined Sainte-Angélique street to see a host of floats and group’s march in the parade that was followed at Parc Béedard by a traditional hotdog lunch provided by the Optimists Club, a car show, a rock climbing wall, animation and other activities. The festivities will continue in Saint Lazare with the Town’s annual Canada Day celebration.
